LiveClock updated for 5.1.1

LiveClock is a classic free jailbreak tweak that was originally created by iOS developer and hacker Ryan Petrich and was handed down to Joshua Lee Tucker (not the former ModMyi writer – another Joshua Tucker), who was unable to update the software for the latest version of iOS due to a busy lifestyle.

Today, it appears that Ryan Petrich has continued the project – updating LiveClock for the untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak. The tweak is still free, but it must be downloaded from Ryan Petrich’s private repository. To add it, you can launch Cydia, tap on Manage, then tap on Sources, then tap on Edit, then finally tap on Add, and enter the following URL:

PHP Code:
http://rpetri.ch/repo/
As shown above, the application allows the home screen’s Clock application to become animated and display the actual time in real time. It includes a second hand that ticks, a minute hand that follows, and an hour hand that continues behind the two. LiveClock was popular because it was a very simple modification that did one really neat thing that Apple should have included to begin with. Without LiveClock, the calendar application is the only animated icon on the home screen, as it changes day after day to match the date.

LiveClock for iOS 5.1.1, just like before, includes four extra WinterBoard themes – the ability to hide the second hand, the ability to disable the tweak, a darker colored clock, and finally a darker colored clock with no seconds. You will need WinterBoard installed to see these themes, however WinterBoard is not a required dependency to install LiveClock.

While LiveClock is the original work of art that brought the animated Clock application icon to iOS, another alternative was introduced to iOS 5 last month called Clockify. The application does the same thing, however it includes a widget for both the lock screen and for Notification Center and includes some customization options. If you own Clockify, you should stick with it, but if you don’t have either, LiveClock is a great way to get only the animated clock at a great price – free.

If you have really missed this amazing jailbreak tweak like I have, you can finally grab it for iOS 5. Get downloading!

DreamCoin

Don’t you wish that some things in iOS were just a little more convenient? A new free jailbreak tweak called DreamCoin by iOS developer ClausCartel attempts to make some useful iOS functions accessible from a button located on your home screen. Nothing gets much more convenient than the home screen – the place where you start out every time you unlock your iOS device.

After installing DreamCoin, you will find a new icon on your home screen that looks like a golden coin. If you tap on it right after installing it, you will get an alert message that says, "Hello! Open Settings App and choose a dream for that coin!" Now that you know what it wants you to do, you can go into your settings application and you will find a preferences pane for DreamCoin. The preferences pane is illustrated for you below:

So what kind of dream would you like the coin to have come true for you when you tap on it? Well unfortunately it won’t make you a millionaire, but you can have the coin icon on the home screen do something useful. Currently, the tweak comes with a limited list of options. Tapping on the coin icon from the home screen will invoke whatever option you choose. The tweak can currently carry out any of the following functions when you tap on the coin icon from the home screen:

Restart the device
Open DeviantArt from Mobile Safari
Open Google from Mobile Safari
Compose a new e-mail
Compose a new text message or iMessage
Toggle Wi-Fi on or off
Invoke Voice Control
Open an alert message that tells you the exact date
Open a text field that allows you to search for a Github user
Compose a new reminder from the Reminders application
Fix your caches

The list of options is quite diverse and unique, offering a range of options from system toggles, to Web site shortcuts, to quick-composition abilities. While some users probably won’t find all of the options useful, the good news is that everyone can probably find the tweak to be useful for at least one of its options.

The round coin icon does look a little bit goofy on the home screen being surrounded by a bunch of squarer icons, however it also helps the coin stand out so you can find it on the home screen very easily. The tweak certainly has the potential to be useful, but maybe adding more options to the preferences pane could make it better. It is a free tweak and it is worth checking out!

QuickReply For Messenger

If you’re a fan of the QuickReply For WhatsApp tweak, then you may want to check this one out. QuickReply For Messenger lets you message your Facebook friends from anywhere on your iPhone.

The app makes use of the Messenger app — Facebook’s chat client for iPhone, to quick reply to messages. The tweak offers a decent interface, which looks a lot like the standard iOS pop ups for posting statuses. You can even reply to messages on the lock screen with a swipe. There also are several toggles in Settings so that you can customize the tweak. For instance, you can change the Facebook messenger icon, customize delivery sounds, and enable or disable the tweak.

This is pretty useful since you won’t have to keep opening up the Messenger app to reply to messages. Now you can continue playing a game or surfing the Web without any interruption. Plus, if you’re like me, then you probably are not a fan of Facebook’s buggy iOS apps anyway.
You can grab the tweak from Cydia for $1.99. The developer is also offering a three day free trial before you decide whether or not you want to purchase the tweak. Customers of the TwitkaFly tweak can grab QuickReply For Messenger for only $0.99.

Animateall

Remember AnimateLockscreen? This jailbreak tweak, which we first told you about in June, allowed users to add boot-logo animations to their iPhone’s Lock screen. Now, a brand-new tweak called AnimateAll has replaced AnimateLockscreen, which allows users to add boot-logo animations not only to the Lock screen, but to the Home screen and Notification Center, also.

The new AnimateAll tweak has appeared as an update to AnimateLockscreen, which has maintained its original price-tag of one dollar. Like before, the tweak can be adjusted and configured via a new pane in the Settings app, and additional animations can be downloaded from within the Cydia app.

If you’ve already purchased AnimateLockscreen, then AnimateAll will be available to you as a free update. Otherwise the jailbreak tweak can be downloaded in the Cydia Store for one dollar. Below, we’ve included a video walkthrough of the new AnimateAll tweak provided by iDownloadBlog. Take a look at the video, and start animating your iDevice now!
